Leica M4-P Dummy
Leica · Germany · 1981–1987 (6 years) · 135 film
The M4-P Dummy is a non-functional replica of Leica's M4-P rangefinder camera, produced from 1981 to 1987. It served as a training tool for Leica technicians, sales staff, and potentially customers, allowing hands-on familiarization with the M4-P's controls, body shape, and layout without the risk associated with operating a real, valuable camera. Constructed primarily of metal like the actual M4-P, it accurately mimicked the camera's external form, including the rangefinder window, lens mount, film advance lever, shutter speed dial, and shutter release button. While it lacked an internal mechanism, its robust build reflected Leica's reputation for solid construction, making it a durable teaching aid rather than a functioning photographic device.
