Olympus OM-4 Ti
Olympus · Japan
The Olympus OM-4 Ti is a highly regarded 35mm SLR camera that represents a refinement of Olympus's professional OM system. Released in 1986 as a titanium version of the OM-4 to commemorate Olympus's 50th anniversary, it featured lighter and more durable titanium top and bottom plates while maintaining the camera's professional specifications. The OM-4 Ti introduced significant metering capabilities with its multi-spot metering function that allowed photographers to take up to eight spot readings and average them, providing unprecedented exposure control for complex lighting situations. This innovation was particularly valuable for professional photographers who needed precise exposure accuracy in challenging conditions.
Despite its relatively compact size for a professional SLR of its era, the OM-4 Ti offered a robust build quality with a metal body, professional-grade shutter capable of 1/2000 second and 1/60 second flash synchronization, and a bright viewfinder with interchangeable focusing screens. The camera was part of Olympus's continuing effort to compete with larger, heavier SLRs from Nikon and Canon by offering a more portable yet fully professional alternative. The OM-4 Ti gained popularity among photojournalists and sports photographers who appreciated its combination of durability, precision, and portability, establishing it as a respected tool among serious photographers of the 1980s and 1990s.
