The Rolleiflex 2.8 F Dummy was a non-functional replica or training model produced by Rollei alongside its iconic 2.8 F twin-lens reflex (TLR) camera between 1960 and 1981. Based closely on the appearance of the actual Rolleiflex 2.8 F model, this dummy unit served purposes like display in shops, training for camera repair technicians, or as a movie prop. It mimicked the distinctive Rolleiflex design—featuring a prominent viewing hood, waist-level finder, and twin lenses on a front panel—but lacked any internal mechanisms for exposing film, such as a film transport system, shutter, or lens elements capable of forming an image. Essentially, it was a hollow shell or mock-up replicating the external form and proportions of the real camera, constructed from materials like plastic and lightweight metal, making it much lighter and less substantial than a functioning Rolleiflex.
