Zenit Horizont (gold)
Zenit · Russia · 1967–1973 (6 years) · 135 film
The Horizont (gold) was a 35mm panoramic camera produced by the Soviet manufacturer Zenit between 1967 and 1973. Designed for the consumer market, it featured a swinging lens and rotating image drum mechanism to capture wide 24mm x 110mm panoramic negatives on standard 135 film. Its distinctive appearance, often finished in a metallic gold lacquer, made it visually striking compared to the more utilitarian designs common in Soviet photography. The camera provided an accessible way for ordinary Soviet citizens to create panoramic photographs, a novelty format at the time, functioning as a straightforward, manual-only device with fixed shutter speed and aperture.
