Praktica LTL 2
Praktica · Germany · 1975–1978 (3 years) · 135 film
The Praktica LTL 2 was a mainstream 35mm single-lens reflex (SLR) camera manufactured by Pentacon in Dresden, East Germany, between 1975 and 1978. It formed part of Praktica's long-running 'L' series, which was renowned for offering robust, functional photography equipment at an affordable price point, particularly popular in Eastern Europe and among budget-conscious photographers in the West. Characterized by its fully mechanical shutter speeds (typically 1s to 1/1000s, plus B) and reliance on a match-needle selenium cell light meter (often housed on the front plate) for exposure guidance, the LTL 2 represented the accessible, practical end of the SLR market. Utilizing Praktica's reliable M42 screw mount, it accepted a wide array of affordable East German lenses like those from Pentacon and Meyer-Optik, making it a versatile tool for general photography, though the system lacked the advanced automation of contemporary Japanese counterparts. Its straightforward, all-metal construction prioritized durability and ease of use over ergonomic refinement or technological innovation.
