Yashica Reflex 35 J

Yashica · Japan · 1962–1964 (2 years) · 135 film

The Yashica Reflex 35 J was a basic 35mm single-lens reflex camera produced by Yashica from 1962 to 1964. Representing an early and affordable entry into the burgeoning SLR market, it shared the core format and design principles of its era: a pentaprism viewfinder for an eye-level, laterally correct image, and a cloth focal-plane shutter. Lacking a built-in light meter, it relied on a separate selenium cell meter or, more commonly, external exposure calculation. Its construction was typical of Japanese budget SLRs of the period, utilizing pressed metal and basic controls aimed at cost-conscious photographers stepping up from rangefinders or viewfinder cameras.
