Polaroid 660 Autofocus SE
Polaroid · USA · 1986 · Instant film
The Polaroid 660 Autofocus SE, introduced in 1986, represents a refinement of Polaroid's folding instant camera concept aimed at the consumer market. Building upon the earlier 600 series models, it featured Polaroid's Sonar autofocus technology, enabling users to achieve sharper focus automatically with a simple point-and-shoot mechanism. This folding design allowed the camera to be compact and portable when closed, unfolding to reveal the viewfinder and lens. It utilized the same integral film pack as other 600-series cameras, producing the classic, square Polaroid prints instantly, making it accessible and convenient for snapshots and casual photography during the mid-1980s. While it incorporated the popular autofocus feature, it didn't introduce any fundamentally new technology or design philosophy that significantly altered the trajectory of instant photography like earlier flagship models.
