Zenit 12
Zenit · Russia · 1983–1988 (5 years) · 135 film
The Zenit 12 was a straightforward, entry-level 35mm SLR camera manufactured by the Soviet KMZ factory in Moscow between 1983 and 1988. It represented the continuation of Zenit's long-running budget SLR lineage, designed to provide basic manual photography at an affordable price point. Sharing the robust but utilitarian M42 screw mount with its predecessors, the camera featured a metal body, a manual film advance lever, a TTL (through-the-lens) center-weighted light meter, and typical manual shutter speeds and aperture control. Its significance lies not in innovation or premium quality, but in its role as a widely accessible photographic tool for Soviet and Eastern Bloc consumers during the 1980s.
