ICA Lloyd (535/575)

ICA · Germany · 1910–1912 (2 years) · 135 film

The Lloyd (535/575) is an early 35mm camera manufactured by ICA (Internationale Camera Aktiengesellschaft) between 1910 and 1912. As one of the earliest examples of 35mm format cameras, the Lloyd predates the groundbreaking Leica I by approximately thirteen years, placing it within a transitional period when 35mm film was still largely experimental. ICA, a German camera manufacturer founded in 1909, would later merge with three other companies to form Zeiss Ikon in 1926, making the Lloyd an interesting artifact of this significant early 20th-century camera consolidation. Though little is known about the specific design features of the Lloyd (535/575), its production during this formative period makes it an important link in the evolution of 35mm photography toward the eventual dominance of this format in the decades that followed.
